Case Study Details

Contact was made with XX at an event in Hexham that I attended, at the event XX requested an EARN audit.

XX lives as a tenant in a 3 bed, old, solid stone house with her disabled adult daughter and disabled son. All windows are double glazing, there is 400mm of loft insulation. XX has an oil boiler for central heating and hot water, an open fire for secondary heating and uses an oil filled radiator for additional warmth as required in her disabled daughter’s room.

2 radiators were on external walls and I supplied radiator reflectors for these. All internal light fittings except 3 had LED bulbs I supplied replacements for these. The back door was draughty so I supplied draught excluding tape. The house has 2 chimneys, one is disused, I recommended a chimney balloon for the disused chimney.

I talked about CO safety and supplied JP with a CO alarm.

I explained about the priority service register to XX and then added her with her permission.

XX had successfully applied for the warm homes discount with her previous supplier. When her supplier went bankrupt, her account was moved to British Gas but she did not receive the warm homes discount. She had tried to resolve this with British Gas unsuccessfully. I was able to contact them and resolve it on her behalf, XX has now received the credit.

XX was unsure what her average energy costs might be under her new tariff, I was able to work this out for her so that she could try to budget.

XX had run out of heating oil and had been unable to afford to refill her tank. I applied to the Household Support Fund for help with this.
