On 26 August 2022 Ofgem announced the energy price cap will increase to £3,549 per year for dual fuel for an average household from 1 October 2022. This is an increase of 80% since the last update.
The Default Tariff cap first came into force on 1st January 2019, as a temporary cap on standard variable tariffs and fixed term default tariffs.
In August 2022, Ofgem announced the Default Tariff Cap will be updated on a quarterly basis rather than every six months. In accordance with the licence requirements, they will now run an update process four times a year to ensure the Default Tariff Cap reflects changes in the cost of supplying energy more quickly.
