Have you got a Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm? Is it in date?
CO is a gas that cannot be detected by human senses. Low level leaks can cause CO poising while a major leak can be fatal. The most common sources are faulty boilers, gas fires and cookers.
Studies show that the presence of CO alarms can reduce the risk of fatal CO poisoning by up to 50%*. However, 54% of homes in England do not have a carbon monoxide alarm.**
Protect yourself and your family from the silent killer, both at home and when travelling, and ensure your alarm is present, in date and made to British Standard EN50291 and including a kitemark.
If the alarm sounds, leave the building and call 999.
